We got stuck in traffic during Columbus Day weekend and it was very late. This campground was the only one that had a few spots left. I paid the price posted at the night registration. Cheapest was $40 for no hookups. A pull-through was $80. I had no choice but to stay. They have everyone jammed in very tight with no room between sites. There was a smelly dumpster right across the road from us, and about a dozen other sites. When I went up the next morning they tried tell me there were special rates for fall and tried to charge me more than the posted price which I refused. I will complain to the Better Business Bureau later. Tax is 11.75 percent in Pigeon Forge. The dump station was located just behind the office on the way to the campground: as you pulled into the campground it was next to the pet and children's play areas. It was an open grate with toilet paper hanging all over the grate. You pull up over the grate and dump on top of it. I wonder why the health department lets them do that. Especially with the children's play area close to it. WiFi is misleading, It is available but you have to register with a third party , separate from the campground, after you log on with their user name and password.
Every site is W/S/E only. Campground is between a railroad ( active through the night) and a busy road on the other side. Quite a few seasonals. No discounted W/E sites available. 39 dollars is alot of money to pay for a campground that doesn't have level sites. My graded stone back in was off 5 inches from level. Judging from other parked motorhomes, this is prevalent throughout the campground. Bathroom and shower are in one room. Although the female shower and curtain and bathroom area were clean, the mens was awful. The shower curtain in the mens area was something you should touch only with rubber gloves. There was no place to get dressed in private in either of the showers/restrooms.
We camped here off season and had the place to ourselves. Felt very secure as office and owners house overlooks the grounds. Nice Water views. Very nice man at desk who was very friendly and helpful. Not sure I would like it during the busy time, but it made an excellent spot to stay while we went and toured Campobello and the lighthouse. I would camp here again. Nearby restaurant: Ate at Uncle Kippy's and had to get my own menu and then wait another 10 minutes for the waitress -- dinner was served a good half hour later. It wasn't that crowded. Some diners came in 10 minutes after we ordered and they got served the same time. Not recommended.
98 percent of park is seasonals. There were about 4 pull thrus that were just areas of gritty sand that we spent way too much time brushing off our shoes and steps of the RV. There were about 5 more back in sites with water and electric only. These were the only availible sites for camping. The rest are well established seasonals. They would be better off calling it a trailer park instead of a campground. The lady at the desk was very rude and acted like she was doing us a favor renting her pull thru to us for one night. The restrooms were old but very clean. The sewer hookup backed up fast and made it hard to dump without an overflow. The lake had a nice little swimming area. THe staff that did work around the site seemed friendly, at least they smiled and waved.
Beautiful Campground with sites in Sun or shade, private or open water views or in the trees, enough to cater to anyones preferences. Plenty of room and clean facilities. Workampers at the desk were friendly and helpful. I liked the speed bumps to keep traffic speed way down. Clean laundry. Nice pool overlooking the bay. Another great thing about Mt Desert Island is that there are no skunks on the island and thus none to bother the campers at night :) One word of warning--avoid the nearby Log Cabin Restaurant if you value your health.
Nice campground. It was 37 dollars because we had 3 adults in our party so there is an extra person charge. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and well kept. It is well supervised, the crew must put on alot of miles on the golf carts driving around :) We enjoyed our stay . There are bears so they warn you not to leave food out overnite.
Above rates off season and add 2.50 for AC. Many seasonals. Available back-in W/E sites were located in a field that was coarse sand and stones with plenty of weeds. Trash in fire rings and many hard lemonade and beer bottle caps sll over the field. Overhead electric wires were lying on the ground in the brush behind the campsites, which might pose a danger to young children. Water lines were above ground (black flex pvc) and spigots were not secured to posts and lying in the brush. Not one of the best Good Sam listed parks.
Has a small arm gate for "security" operated from the office/camp store that, if someone wanted to, could be bypassed by driving around the barn before the gate. We got a kick out of the British flag flying under the American Flag on a pole next to the office. Alot of seasonals. No discounts of any kind on rates. A dumpster along the entrance road where they dump the animal waste with many flies buzzing about. We paid the 31.75 and set up. Since the coach was hot from travel and we had 4 dogs with us I asked if I could run the air for an hour to cool it down. I could, but it cost me another 3 dollars extra. I paid the 3 and went to the RV to get changed. I left the door open to get cooler air until the ac had a chance to start working, then changed into a pair of shorts. I had just finished pulling on my shorts when there was a knock at the door. The lady that owned the campground was upset that the door was open and the AC was on and we were wasting electricity (That I had paid extra for). After that fiasco, things went smoothly and we had a quiet pleasnt night. Loads of goats, chickens and horses around. It was a clean and neat campground but I would not go back.
